Solar Panels Installed at Hayes Arboretum

The 2024 Total Solar Eclipse was a natural phenomenon that brought thousands of people to the Richmond Community on April 8th. Inspired by this event, the funds for the 2024 Spring Appeal went towards Solar Panels for Hayes Arboretum. We were pleased to announce that the amount fundraised - along with a generous $10,000 match - covered the purchase and installation of Solar Panels for the Nature Center.

This past winter, the panels were installed on property behind the Nature Center. These Solar Panels are located near the original site of the Solar Greenhouse that once existed on property. The Solar Greenhouse, built in 1976, was the first solar greenhouse in the State of Indiana. The purpose of the greenhouse was to show that solar energy was possible in the Midwest and not just sunny states like Florida and California. The new Solar Panels will provide energy for both the Nature Center and Turner-Grey Meeting Room.

Thank you for helping keep Hayes Arboretum powered by the sun - since 1915.
